Angel Dear Blankies (or similar things made by other companies, often called “loveys”) are great because babies aren't allowed to sleep with things in their cribs, but these are breathable and small enough that they are allowed. This lets the baby have something to snuggle with s/he's not just alone in his crib. Loveys also make great transitional objects — things that soothe your baby and help him/her adjust to changes or new environments (our son took his lovey with him to preschool every day for the first year).
